What Started the Fire?

Cross Over Marketing was founded by Rob Blair and Fred Steck with one goal in mind: to “do” marketing differently.

Having been in sales for sports TV, cable networks, professional and collegiate sports, and entertainment and travel, we knew that many times clients struggle to realize the ROI they paid for, due to one dimensional sales initiatives and offerings.

Here’s what we know to be true…

The longest lasting and most successful marketing partnerships involve a relationship with other like-minded partners, who work together for the betterment of the overarching program and all stakeholders.

That’s where we come in!

We help brands literally cross over their assets with those of another brand.

We work with people that we enjoy working with, and introduce them to other like-minded people. We then work hard to help create the greatest possible value and benefit for all involved.

We like to say we’ve created new marketing math where 1+1 really does equal 3.

Meet Fred

Founder

What did Fred want to be when he grew up?

He thought he would be a screenwriter.

But then, a week after graduating from East Carolina University (Go Pirates!), he had an opportunity to interview for a job in cable network sales, and when he received a job offer… well you know the old saying a bird in the hand… Thus started a thirty year career in cable and sports sponsorships sales, with companies like Turner, Time Warner, Raycom, FOX and Learfield.

Working with those companies proved to Fred that he loves creating marketing and advertising partnerships that make the brands he works with more successful.

So thirty years later, what still gets Fred excited about this work?

That’s easy, it’s his clients. Well, they actually become friends.

Creating impactful ROI for his friends is what pushes Fred and led to him co-founding Cross Over Marketing.

Fred’s wife, three daughters and two Labrador Retrievers, live in Dunwoody, GA. Music, sports, beer, travel and being a dad are all passions of his.

And who knows, maybe that million dollar screenplay idea is still out there…

Meet Rob

Founder

If you were to see Rob Blair: The Movie, you would be entertained by a Kentucky born dreamer, whose love for sports grew into a life in sports.

After graduating from the Big Blue Nation, at the University of Kentucky, Rob has never had a boring job.

He has watched the Daytona 500 with Vince Vaughn, Darius Rucker, and Kid Rock.  He has worked with NBA and NFL superstars, sold NASCAR races, sang with Rascal Flatts (may have had a drink or two), became the top salesperson in a billion dollar company, and was once labeled an illegal NCAA basketball recruiter.

But that is only the backstory.

This movie is all about Cross Over Marketing: a company founded on his passions of sports, travel, and entertainment.

The best part: Rob gets to work with some of his closest friends in the world.

Every good movie has a great supporting cast, and Rob has the best.  His wife, Ellie, and three kiddos, Jordan, Colt, and Callaway, keep Rob’s movie very entertaining.

If only he knew a screen writer…

Meet Ryan

Head of Events and Entertainment

Where to begin?

If Ryan had a motto, “Your life is a book; make it a bestseller.” summarizes him to a T. He grew up a sports-obsessed kid playing basketball & baseball, trading baseball cards and obsessing over the Bulls, Bears, & Cubs.

He was selected in the 18th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft by the Texas Rangers out of Indiana St which allowed him to chase his childhood dream from California, Texas, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, & South Korea.

Ryan with his wife, Megan, and son, Ryder.

After 7 years of professional baseball, Ryan hung up his spikes and decided to write the next chapter of his best seller. A chance meeting and some friendly albeit intense competition playing in an adult whiffle ball tournament, Ryan met Rob and a quick friendship was struck.

Ryan quickly met Fred and after exchanging some obscure sports references and stories on the golf course he knew instantly what the plot of his book looked like! Ryan’s intense passion for exceeding expectations and delivering the best product to his customer pushes him daily and makes him strive to find new and innovative ways to deliver value.

Helping Ryan write his best seller is his better half (by a unanimous decision) wife, Megan along with his 2 kids Ryder (son) & Presley (daughter).

This is going to be a heck of a book… Rob didn’t you mention something about a screen writer for adaption?

Meet Keith

Vice President of Development

What story do we tell you about Keith?

It’s probably easier to let him tell you. With nearly 30 years in the sports and entertainment industry, one could say that Keith loves sports, concerts, traveling and talking about all of them, for hours, with total strangers! There hasn’t been a vacation, game, concert, or even a simple walk through the neighborhood where Keith doesn’t meet some of the most interesting people. And, if they own or run a business, Keith’s creative wheels start turning about how he might help boost their business and create unique experiences that get consumers hooked on brands. He’s also got a million stories to share…like this photo of him in an Indy Car driver suit. We could share that story here, but it’s more fun when Keith tells you all about that day, over a glass of bourbon.

After graduating from Florida State University’s College of Business, Keith began his journey in Minor Professional Hockey, with stops in Memphis, TN and in Macon, GA as President of the Macon Whoopee (yes, you read that right!)…

Keith and family - just missing their 2 dogs to complete the picture.

Following his time with the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, Keith landed himself in college sports for the next 15 years working with Purdue, Florida State, UK Basketball and Rupp Arena. UK and Rupp Arena is where he met Rob Blair and their creative thinking and approach to business strategy, partnerships and sponsorship sales took off. Both did a short stretch in national sales before Rob started Cross Over Marketing with Fred and Keith did a brief assignment at Florida State. The two kept in touch, bouncing ideas off each other, and now three years later, Keith is on board with us.

Keith resides in Florida with his wife, Karen, and the youngest of their ‘Brady Bunch’ of 5 kids, Trinity, as well as their 2 family dogs – a Cavalier named Ava and a female English Pointer rescue named Larrie (pronounced Larry – that’s a good story as well).
